To make the capital slum-free, the government has spent Rs 3,114.70 crore on rehabilitation schemes and the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana in the last 40 years. Thousands of families have been given permanent houses. However, according to government records, slums increased from 72 to 388 instead of decreasing. These slums are located on approximately 2,000 acres of government land. Now, before removing them, the municipal corporation has to find new government land to settle the families.
