The first bird conservation reserve in the Bhopal region was established in Kagpur.
Kagpur in Vidisha, about 80 km from Bhopal, has become the first bird conservation reserve of Madhya Pradesh. The state government has notified the ancient Kagpur pond and surrounding 53.5 hectares of government land between Betwa and Bahya rivers for this purpose. While the first conservation reserve in the state is Tapi in Betul, which was notified on August 21, 2025, Kagpur is the first bird conservation reserve solely dedicated to the protection of birds.
