In 1910, Giacomo D’Angelis from Italy built his own aircraft and tested it in Chennai's Pallavaram, becoming part of city’s early history of aviation experiments

Giacomo D’Angelis, an Italian-born hotelier, built his own aircraft in Madras. He tested his biplane at Pallavaram, which was a new technology then. D’Angelis later demonstrated his flying machine at Island Grounds for the public. Tamil writer Subramania Bharati also wrote about this Madras-built aircraft. This experiment marked an early chapter in Madras's aviation history.
