NHRC's strictness puts Medanta Hospital on backfoot: dispute over an 18 lakh bill in Gurugram; claim of stopping the body for outstanding amount.
In Gurugram, a 30-year-old resident of Shahjahanpur in Uttar Pradesh died during treatment at Medanta Hospital. Following this, the hospital administration refused to hand over the deceased's body to his family due to an outstanding bill payment dispute. The hospital administration retreated after strong intervention from the National Human Rights Commission and a direct warning from the commission's national chairperson, Priyank Kanoongo, and eventually handed over the body to the family.
