Seeing a Facebook advertisement for a pension card turned out to be costly: a retired soldier in Indore was defrauded of ₹1.23 lakh; the money was withdrawn in six installments using an OTP.
A 75-year-old retired army jawan residing in the Pardesipura area of Indore, India, was defrauded online of ₹123,000 in the name of creating a pension card. Shashikant Durape had seen an advertisement on Facebook for making a pension card with an SBI logo. Trusting the advertisement and applying accordingly, the fraudster then made a WhatsApp call to obtain debit card details and an OTP. Subsequently, money was deducted from his account six times.
