In Madhya Pradesh today is Deepotsav (festival of lights), with 2.5 million lamps lit in Ujjain, illuminating the banks of the Shipra River. Three thousand police personnel will be deployed, and 26,000 volunteers will illuminate the Shipra River.

On the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's birthday, Deepotsav will be celebrated today in Ujjain and throughout Madhya Pradesh. In Ujjain, 25 lakh lamps will be lit at major ghats including Ramghat on the Shipra River, Datt Akhada Ghat, and Mahakal Lok. The Deepotsav will begin at 7 pm with the lighting of the 'Aashirvaad Ka Deep' at Ramghat, followed by an aarti to Maa Shipra. BJP National President Nitin Navin and Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav will also be present on this occasion.
