Despite the launch of various initiatives like the PESA Act, Tuntya Mama University, and the Earth Abhiyan, including the sickle cell program, the pace of basic development in the tribal areas of the Indore division remains extremely slow. According to the 2011 census, out of the division's population of 1.25 crore, 53.62 lakh (42.75%) are from the Scheduled Tribe category. This population ranges from 55 to 89 percent in the districts of Dhar, Jhabua, Alirajpur, and Barwani, and 40 out of 54 development blocks in the division are predominantly tribal. Tribal villages
