He won with a total of 2,009 votes, defeating his closest competitor, Jaswinder Singh Sibal, by a massive margin of 1,503 votes. According to the declared results for the presidential post, Jaswinder Singh Sibal received 506 votes, Vikas Gupta got 397, and Rajesh Khanna secured 16 votes. Meanwhile, 12 votes were declared invalid.
