Amarjit Chawla, who was caught in the rape case, has resigned from the SAD-SGPC.

Ludhiana| An FIR has been registered against Amarjit Singh Chawla, a member of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) and senior vice-president of the Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal), on charges of rape, wrongful confinement, and threatening to kill. After the matter came to light, Chawla resigned from all positions in the Akali Dal and SGPC membership. The Sri Anandpur Sahib police station registered a case based on the woman's complaint on August 21, 2026, under the BNS Act.
