A new case of sand extraction from the Sutlej River has emerged in the Sidhwan Bet area of Jagraon town, Ludhiana. Farmers and labor organizations, including the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Khaira Bet), have alleged that mining is taking place in the river under the guise of desilting. A dam has been constructed to facilitate the movement of sand-laden vehicles, diverting the natural flow of water. In protest, farmers have launched a sit-in demonstration. This demonstration is being held on the Mahithpur-Jagraon road.
