Petrol pumps and LPG distributors, who encourage customers to make cashless payments, are now worried about the proposed Merchant Discount Rate (MDR). They say that if MDR is implemented on select UPI transactions, it will be difficult for dealers operating with low margins to bear the additional charges. In such a situation, they may have to limit UPI payments and revert to cash transactions. The implementation of this change is scheduled from October 15th.
