A fire broke out in the NICU of Amravati District Women's Hospital in Maharashtra around 3:30 am on Monday. The child care unit, located on the third floor, had 39 newborns admitted at that time. Among them, three newborns died, while 36 were rescued. According to Amravati Police Commissioner Rakesh Ola, nine newborns were admitted to one of the three NICU compartments. The fire spread to this section, engulfing three children. The remaining six children were taken for treatment.
