The driver in the bus gang rape case had gone to Delhi a day before the incident, according to his wife in Kanpur. The student ran away after becoming upset with her mother, saying that the conductor framed her husband.

A 16-year-old student from Mainpuri, Uttar Pradesh was gang-raped on a sleeper bus traveling in Delhi. The perpetrators are also from Uttar Pradesh. The bus driver, Kuldeep Sharma (45), is originally from Ladpur Paith village in Kanpur Dehat, while the conductor, Sandeep, is from Katri village in Kanpur Nagar. Police arrested both of them from the bus parking area in Timarpur, North Delhi. The bus used in the crime belongs to Vishwanath Tours in Firozabad.
