Nepal has released floodwater into Gandak River, leading to a deepening flood crisis in North Bihar due to record rainfall of 193 mm in the Terai region.

The torrential rains in the Terai regions and bordering districts of Nepal have led to a severe flood situation in North Bihar. A record discharge of over 6.52 lakh cusecs of water was recorded from the Devghat gauge station in Nepal, surpassing the previous record of 5.26 lakh cusecs released on August 27, 1999. Following the release of water from Nepal, 5.15 lakh cusecs of water were discharged into the Gandak River from the Valmikinagar barrage at 9 pm on Sunday night. This is the largest discharge this year.
