Following heavy rainfall in Nepal, the rivers of North Bihar, including the Gandak River, are overflowing. The flood situation is severe in six districts, affecting approximately 159,000 people. On September 28th, 543,000 cusecs of water were released into the Gandak from the Valmikinagar Barrage, with a discharge rate exceeding 500,000 cusecs in just 13 hours. The water level in the Gandak River has reached 91.25 meters at the Bagha gauge site, which is its highest level to date. The maximum water level here was recorded at 90.90 meters in 2024.
