The story of Bihar's first acting female DGP: Preeta Verma became the SP of Vaishali in 2005 and came into the limelight due to a kidney scandal.

The command of the Bihar Police is currently in the hands of a senior female IPS officer who has held several important responsibilities from the field to the police headquarters during her nearly 34 years of police career. Preeta Verma, an IPS officer of the 1991 batch, has been given the additional charge of Bihar DGP while DGP Vinay Kumar is on leave from September 15 to October 5, 2026. She will be in charge of DG-Commander in Chief, Home Guard and other responsibilities.
