World Rabies Day today: In Jharkhand, there are only 50 cages for dogs near 49 shelters and 12 shelter homes.

The Supreme Court had issued strict directives to all state governments last November to protect people from the menace of stray dogs. The court directed them to secure schools, hospitals, railway stations, bus stands, and sports complexes, and prohibit the entry of stray dogs into these areas. It also ordered that instead of cruelly abandoning them, dog shelter homes and animal birth control centers be established in all municipal bodies.
