Upon receiving the information, Lakhanmajra police station arrived at the scene and started an investigation after taking possession of the body. The police sent the body to the morgue for post-mortem examination and registered a case against the accused based on the complaint filed by the family members. The deceased has been identified as Sanjay, originally from Champaran district in Bihar, who had been living in a rented house in Girawad village for quite some time.
