The UP Board is witnessing a decline in student interest: a decrease in high school and intermediate enrollment in the last 2 years. The DIOS (District Inspector of Schools) has stated that students are increasingly leaning towards CBSE.

The interest of students from Varanasi in the UP Board is decreasing. Registration figures for the past three years suggest something similar. In 2024, 52,127 students registered for high school, but this number decreased to 46,315 in 2026, a decrease of 5,812 students in two years. Registration has also decreased in intermediate. Meanwhile, in the academic session 2026-27, the number of students for ninth grade is 43,824 and for eleventh grade is 40,229.
