The decision to give up on life is often not sudden. Often, it stems from long-standing stress, loneliness, relationship problems, and the inability to express one's feelings to anyone. Data from the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) in Varanasi city also points towards this concern. In 2022, the city recorded 163 suicides, which increased to 197 in 2024. This represents a 34% increase in cases over two years.
