The Jain-Ji cycle travelers who came to Varanasi from Chauri Chaura had an altercation with students at the Kashi Vidyapeeth University. The travelers also got into a scuffle with the police when they were stopped from entering the gate of Kashi Vidyapeeth. When the students inside the gate threw water and stones at the cycle travelers, the youth became aggressive. Congress leaders made several attempts to enter the gate but failed to succeed against the police. Several Congress workers tried to force their way into the gate.
