A gate at Sukhna Lake in Chandigarh has been opened: water is being released for the first time this monsoon season; surveillance has been increased for 24 hours.
The monsoon has weakened in Punjab and Chandigarh. However, the water level of Sukhna Lake in Chandigarh is rising due to rainfall in the hills. The engineering department of the Chandigarh Administration opened Radial Gate No. 1 by 3 inches at 8:30 pm to prevent any possibility of flooding after the water level in Sukhna Lake rose. This step was taken to control the lake's water level and drain out excess water, according to the department.
