In Chandigarh, cyber fraudsters defrauded a woman of ₹3.30 crore by promising daily profits of up to 5 percent on stock market investments and returns of up to 150 percent in IPOs. The accused identified themselves as officials from well-known trading companies. To gain trust, they sent fake identity cards and purported SEBI registration certificates via WhatsApp. Subsequently, the woman's online trading accounts were opened, and her profits appeared to be steadily increasing.
