In Chandigarh's Sector-38, Deepak Thapa, an accused in a drug smuggling case, escaped after evading the police team from Khanna CIA. According to the police, the team had reached his house around 6 pm on Friday evening with him handcuffed. A search was being conducted at the location mentioned by the accused to recover heroin. During this time, Deepak asked for his handcuffs to be removed, citing that he needed to go to the bathroom. The policemen removed his handcuffs. It is alleged that it was during this time that he sought help from his family members.
