Chandigarh crematorium to use electric cremation system instead of LPG: A plan worth 54 crores to reduce air pollution, smoke will be cleaned with wet scrubbers.

To improve the air quality in Chandigarh, the Municipal Corporation has prepared a plan worth over Rs 54 crore under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP). Special focus has been given to reducing pollution from cremation grounds. The corporation is preparing to convert the LPG-based cremation system at the Sector 25 crematorium into an electric system, with a proposed expenditure of approximately Rs 2.73 crore.
