The Mohali court has delivered a setback to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the central government in a case related to compensation for land acquired for the widening of National Highway-5 (NH-5). The court dismissed NHAI's petition, stating that the Mohali court does not have jurisdiction to hear this matter. The court has directed NHAI to file its plea with the competent court in Rupnagar (Ropar). After nearly 4 years and 9 months of hearing in court, the case is scheduled for a final hearing on September 24, 2026.
